How do you get into IIT Delhi and NIT Delhi?
IIT Delhi admits B.Tech students through JEE Advanced. The JEE Advanced 2026 website states that registering and filling choices in JoSAA 2026 is mandatory for qualified candidates to get an IIT seat. JEE Advanced 2026 was organised by IIT Roorkee.
NIT Delhi, on GT Karnal Road, says on its website that B.Tech admissions are through JEE. It is one of the 31 NITs listed on the JoSAA portal, so seats are filled through JoSAA counselling using JEE Main ranks. Its B.Tech branches include CSE, AI and Data Science, ECE, Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering.
What is JAC Delhi and which colleges does it cover?
The Joint Admission Committee (JAC) Delhi runs a single online counselling for B.Tech and B.Arch seats at five Delhi institutions: NSUT, DTU, IGDTUW, IIIT-Delhi and Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU). Admission is based on JEE Main ranks.
According to the JAC Delhi 2026 admission brochure, 85% of seats in all participating institutions are reserved for Delhi region candidates and 15% for outside Delhi region candidates. Your region depends on where you passed your qualifying exam (Class 12). If your school is inside the NCT of Delhi, you count as Delhi region. For Patrachar Vidyalaya or NIOS students, the location of the exam centre decides the region.
The 2026 brochure sets these minimum Class 12 marks for general category candidates:
- NSUT, DTU, IGDTUW and DSEU: 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, a pass in English, and a JEE Main 2026 (Paper I) rank.
- IIIT-Delhi: 70% in the best five subjects, including PCM, and at least 70% in Mathematics, plus a JEE Main rank.
- B.Arch at NSUT and IGDTUW: 45% aggregate with PCM and English, plus JEE Main Paper II.
Reserved categories get relaxations (for example, 50% for SC/ST at NSUT, DTU, IGDTUW and DSEU), but EWS candidates get none.
What are the steps in the JAC Delhi admission process?
Here is the process as described in the JAC Delhi 2026 brochure. Always follow the current schedule on jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in.
- Register online on jacdelhi.admissions.nic.in and pay the non-refundable registration-cum-counselling fee (Rs 1,500 in 2026).
- Fill your choices of institute and branch in order of preference. Filling more choices helps you benefit from upgrades.
- Choices lock automatically when registration closes. Print your locked choices.
- Check the seat allotment result for each round. Seats are allotted by JEE Main Common Rank List rank, or by a separate IIIT-Delhi rank for IIIT-Delhi.
- If you get a seat, pay the seat acceptance fee (Rs 95,000 in 2026) online within the deadline. If you do not pay, you lose the seat and are not considered in later regular rounds.
- Report in person at the allotted institute for document verification.
- Choose to freeze your seat or keep it on float for upgrades in later rounds. The 2026 process had four regular rounds, an upgradation round, and a spot round if seats remained.
- Pay the balance fee at your final institute as per its own schedule.
What do DTU, NSUT, IIIT-Delhi and IGDTUW offer?
DTU offers a wide range of B.Tech programmes. They include CSE, Software Engineering, IT, Mathematics and Computing, ECE, VLSI, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical and Bio-Technology. DTU also has supernumerary seats in all B.Tech programmes for female candidates.
NSUT’s main campus in Dwarka offers CSE (including AI and Data Science specialisations), ECE, IT, Mathematics and Computing, Mechanical Engineering and B.Arch.
IIIT-Delhi focuses on computing. Its programmes include CSE, ECE and interdisciplinary options that pair computer science with applied mathematics, biosciences, design, social sciences or economics. IIIT-Delhi uses its own merit rank within JAC, which can add bonus points for eligible candidates.
IGDTUW is a women-only university at Kashmere Gate. It offers B.Tech in CSE, CSE (AI), CSE (Cyber Security), ECE, IT, AI and Machine Learning, Mathematics and Computing, and Robotics and AI. It also offers Mechanical and Automation Engineering, a B.Tech plus MBA dual degree and B.Arch.
How much do JAC Delhi colleges cost?
The figures below are approximate first-year academic fees for B.Tech, as printed in the official JAC Delhi 2026 brochure. They are total fees, not tuition alone, and they usually rise in later years. Hostel and mess charges are extra. Check the institute website before paying.
| Institute | Approx. first-year B.Tech fee (2026) |
|---|---|
| NSUT | Rs 2,70,000 |
| DTU | Rs 2,69,700 |
| IGDTUW | Rs 1,68,000 per annum |
| IIIT-Delhi | Rs 4,50,000 |
The brochure also describes fee waivers and scholarships at DTU, NSUT, IGDTUW and IIIT-Delhi.
How do admissions work at GGSIPU, Jamia and Delhi University?
GGSIPU (IP University) runs its own counselling on ipu.admissions.nic.in for B.Tech at its university schools, such as USICT on the Dwarka campus, and at its affiliated colleges. For 2026, the official notices show separate B.Tech merit lists based on JEE Main 2026, IPU CET and CUET 2026, followed by spot and offline rounds for vacant seats.
Jamia Millia Islamia admits B.Tech students through its own application on admission.jmi.ac.in, using JEE Main rank. A JMI notice from July 2026 lists branches such as Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. It also lists self-financed options including Electronics VLSI Design and Technology, and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence.
University of Delhi offers B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical Engineering through its Faculty of Technology. Its 2026 admissions used only the JEE Main 2026 Common Rank List, through DU’s own portal.
How should you choose the right engineering college in Delhi?
- Match the college to your exam result. A JEE Advanced rank opens IIT Delhi. A JEE Main rank opens JAC Delhi, JoSAA (NIT Delhi), Jamia, DU and IPU.
- Apply to several processes. JAC Delhi, JoSAA, IPU, Jamia and DU run separately, so registering for more than one widens your options.
- Know your region. Delhi region students compete for 85% of JAC seats, which can make DTU, NSUT, IIIT-D and IGDTUW much more reachable.
- Compare branch and college together. Decide whether a branch like CSE matters more to you than a higher-ranked institute.
- Budget for the full four years. Fees rise each year at several colleges, and hostel costs are separate.
- Think about the commute. Campuses range from Bawana Road and GT Karnal Road to Dwarka and Okhla, so daily travel matters.
- Use official sources only. JAC Delhi has issued a warning about touts promising admissions, so rely on the official portals.
